Amazon recently dropped the price of the "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, Box Set" from $51 to 38$. I immediately ordered a set and it just arrived this morning. The free shipping said 5-8 business days for free shipping..it only took 2.
I don't buy a lot of things, but I will spend money on oil paints and books; and this book is worth every penny. It comes in a slipcase with two hard-bound volumes with the complete manga. It even has a few bonuses: a beautiful two-sided poster, illustrated maps and some information about the character design. You can read the entire manga online, but if you're like me and you hate reading online, this is book is perfect. It's also printed in the original sepia toned ink on traditional manga paper. My next wish is that the publisher, Viz media, (also made "Starting Point, 1979-1996", by Miyazaki) would translate some more of his original manga into English.. I highly recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a beautifully illustrated epic manga. The story and artwork is unmatched. I do a lot of research for new techniques and such, and I recently found some articles that looked too familiar. My own articles! It's cool to see all this because it means that I'm reaching people, but at the same time it's very strange. In some ways, I have become a bridge between Hayao Miyazaki and William Adolphe Bouguereau. I'm proud of this but my hunger for new knowledge is still strong. I do still find tons of new and exciting things, which is how I found this illustrated poem by Miyazaki: "Hayao Miyazaki's 1983 storybook poem, Imoto He, "For My Sister." The story is 17 pages long and fan-translated into English." Information about the poem http://www.nausicaa.net/miyazaki/manga/imouto.html The poem itself: http://ghiblicon.blogspot.com/2008/03/imoto-he-for-my-sister-1983.html Read it when you have a chance because it's beautiful.. Here are some of my other articles/images that I found while doing research:
