I'm working on a new self portrait from life, as opposed to my last "Head Study of Myself" which was from photos. I feel like neither portrait is as good as I want them to be.
This is the side of painting that most people don't see. Most paintings go bad and can't be recovered. I don't think that either of these paintings are terrible, but they're not fantastic either. I think this is also partly because I'm working on panel instead of stretched canvas. I prefer to work on stretched canvas because the feel is much better.
I'm giving up on the other one and I'll work more on this one. I had originally intended to write a post about painting from photos versus painting from real life, which I may still do if this one takes a better turn.
