I recently picked up an antique mahogany painting palette that I'm excited to start using. I've wanted one because the modern wooden palettes are made out of cheap wood that holds the paint differently. Mahogany is a very hard and durable wood that doesn't warp which makes it great for palettes. It's a beautiful object even by itself.
It needed a little bit of restoration which was fun to do. When the wood is buffed with some wax it brings out the color and sheen of the wood; it also protects the surface. I always choose quality materials and I love working with older equipment like this.
