More progress and I've had some revelations in regards to my ongoing battle with oil painting. I just got a fountain pen for my birthday and I've realized that the material DOES affect the outcome. You have to write slower with a fountain pen and thus it produces a different result.
Therefore, pigments on the palette affect the effect of the oil painting. I'm going back to a 19th century palette. Heavy pigments such as titanium white and cadmiums will create a different surface than a lighter color such as lead white.
