"Sheba" - Day 1
Got a lot more done today than I thought I would. I wasn't too happy with the cartoon transfer yesterday; the sketch was so good that it made the cartoon pale in comparison. But as soon as I started painting, I was happy with the composition on the canvas. More importantly, I feel like I already have the feeling of the dog. This is a memorial portrait so I'm putting as much effort as I can to do a great job.
All I really think about when I paint is pacing myself and doing as well as I can. Never slacking or letting impatience take the better of me. Another tip is that I cleaned off my palette when I switched from painting the dog to painting the background. If you let the colors sit, then they blend together and you get mud. Also, I always stop before I want to in order to leave some of the excitement for tomorrow.
